Kimba has arrived bursting with so many stories of life in Africa and can’t wait to share cuddles and more adventures!
Handknitted with care by female artisans in rural Kenya (Njoro), the pure wool used is grown locally in Kenya, spun on recycled bicycle wheels and then dyed using all natural dyes from plants and vegetables. As you would expect with a truly handmade product, each animal has its own personality due to the variations which occur in the handmade process.
One of the most beautiful things that the women in this group of knitters comment on, is the sense of togetherness that they feel when they come to work with other women – where they sing and share stories as they work. Income from their knitting empowers these women – many of whom are single mothers – by offering them a chance to work and take charge of their lives, with pride and dignity.
Not only will you be delighted with your purchase, but you can smile, knowing that you have supported female artisans in Kenya, too.
