From Seed to Story: The Journey Behind Our Brand.

Every design begins long before fabric is cut or a strap is stitched.
It begins with a seed.

Sometimes that seed is metaphorical- a new idea scribbled in the margins of a travel journal, or a dusty market memory that lingers long after the plane has landed.
But often, it’s a literal seed: a kernel of jute, a cotton boll, or a flaxseed destined to become linen.

Because what you carry should carry meaning.
A bag should be more than a container. A scarf is more than just a layer. These are your travel companions and the guardians of precious memories. Small, beautiful declarations of values worn lightly and valued deeply. Vessels for your essentials, each with a story of its own.

That’s why the journey always begins at the source- with where, and how, it grows.

🌱 Grown With Intention: Jute, Cotton & Linen

Our most loved pieces begin in the soil: jute plants with their golden stalks, soft cotton blooms, and flaxseed destined to become pure linen. These natural fibres are grown sustainably in India, where the land, not the market, sets the pace.

Jute requires little water and no pesticides. Cotton, when used thoughtfully and in moderation, is breathable, strong, and forgiving. Linen- made from the flax plant- is the original eco-fibre, as resilient as it is elegant and the perfect textile for both warm & cool climates, due to its unique hollow fibre.

These fibres are then handspun, handloomed, and hand-finished by skilled artisans. Not mass-produced. Not machine-stitched for speed. But slowly, deliberately, in small batches. Exactly as it should be and as it used to be.

♻️ Woven Again: Upcycled Sari Silk

Not all journeys begin in the soil. Some begin in the past.

Our upcycled sari silk accessories- bright with history and laced with soul- are crafted from vintage sari remnants that would otherwise go to waste. Each piece carries the whisper of former celebrations, hand-repurposed into something new. A new chapter in an old story.

No two are alike. No two stories the same.

Lightweight, expressive, and deeply personal, these pieces prove that beauty doesn’t need to be new- just meaningful.

🧵 Designed With Purpose. Crafted With Care.

Whether it’s a canvas satchel, a handloomed linen scarf, a jute crossbody, or a recycled silk headband, everything we create is designed in Australia and made in ethical partnership with our trusted artisans in India and other countries.

Every strap is adjusted by hand. Every lining is chosen for structure and story. Every button, tassel, and stitch is there because it serves both purpose and beauty.

These are pieces made to be used. Worn. Weathered. Loved.

Carry the Story With You

We don’t chase trends. We trace stories.
And every item in our collection is part of a longer journey- \rom field to fibre, sari to silk thread, past to present.

So when you choose to shop with Where The Wilde Things Are, you’re not just buying a bag or a scarf.
You’re carrying something that remembers where it came from.

And that’s what gives it soul.
